Minutes of the TC-MA meeting in Stockholm
The minutes of the TC-MA meeting held on 7th Aug 2003 at SMAC 03, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden
European Acoustics Association
Technical Committee on Musical Acoustics
Chair(s): Murray Campbell and Domenico StanzialSecretary: David Sharp
- Introduction
As chair of the TCMA, Murray Campbell introduced his co-Chair, Domenico Stanzial, and the TCMA secretary, David Sharp. He then welcomed all those present to the meeting. - EAA website
In his capacity as webmaster, Malte Kob announced that the EAA website now contains separate sections for each technical committee. These sections can be used to post details of forthcoming events, discussions on selected topics, announcements etc.
Several suggestions were given of specific items to be included on the TCMA section:- Minutes of TCMA meetings
- A list of potential candidates for refereeing journal papers Electronic templates for the major acoustics journals
- Teaching material
- A database of Musical Acoustics researchers
The EAA web address was announced as currently being www.eaa-fenestra.org. However, this is due to change to www2.eaa-fenestra.org in the near future. - Publications
David Sharp reported that the special Musical Acoustics issue of Applied Acoustics is now well underway. Twelve papers have been received and the majority of these have been refereed. The issue is on schedule for publication in early 2004.
A call for papers was read out for a special issue of Acustica devoted to string instruments. All such papers should be sent to Antoine Chaigne.
In addition, Anders Askenfelt announced that all the invited papers at SMAC 03 will be published in a special issue of Acustica. - Conferences
Seiji Adachi gave a reminder of the deadline dates for submission of papers for ISMA 2004, to be held in Japan from 31st March to 3rd April (just before the ICA in Kyoto). These are:
Oct 1st 2003: Deadline for abstract submission
Jan 10th 2004: Deadline for paper submission.
It was also noted that the deadline for submission of abstracts for the ICA is Sept 15th 2003.
The next Forum Acusticum will be held in Budapest in the summer of 2005. Domenico Stanzial suggested that a special session on “Measurements of acoustic velocity in the near field of musical instruments” would be interesting. Murray Campbell added that the idea of a special session on “The acoustics of early instruments” had also been mooted. It was agreed that the TCMA section of the EAA website would be a good place to canvass suggestions of topics for special sessions.
The opportunity was taken to thank Anders Askenfelt for organising the current SMAC 03 conference. - European funding
It was noted that the EAA website might prove to be a useful place for locating partner organisations for bids for European funding. - New committee
The idea of holding annual (or at least regular) elections for the TCMA office bearing positions via the EAA website was discussed. This seemed preferable to holding such elections during conferences. Electronic voting would maximise the number of voters and ensure the voting procedure would take place on a regular basis. - Date of next meeting: To be announced
